You just brought your new babe home from the hospital.  Life is crazy and, gah… you still need to find a photographer!  I have my top tips for booking your maternity/newborn session to make sure it’s smooth sailing and stress free.  Just the way I like it!

Newborn sessions have a special place in my heart, it’s truly a unique experience and special time in life.  That sweet little babe will only grow bigger as the days pass and they will never be that tiny again.  I absolutely loved my deliveries, but wasn’t exactly prepared for how little time I would have to myself after.  Trying to find and book your photographer after the birth of your child can be stressful, so I created some tips so you can see why planning ahead will really help you out!

TOP 5 TIPS:

  1. SECOND TRIMESTER:  Start looking and try to book your photographer when you are in your second trimester.  This will give you plenty of time to research different photographer styles and chat with them to make sure they are offering what you are looking for.
  2. MATERNITY SESSION: Don’t forget about a maternity session.  I add on a complimentary mini maternity session when you book a newborn session with me.  Both maternity and newborn go hand in hand in my mind. They are so closely related and part of one story.  I try to photograph maternity sessions between 30-33 weeks.  Don’t skip out on these because you feel self conscious (believe me, I’ve been there!), but think of your child in 10 years from now looking back at photos of when they were in your tummy and feeling so much joy to see that.
  3. WHY PLAN AHEAD: Planning ahead gives you that piece of mind that you have completed all the contracts, questionnaires and planned your session with your photographer ahead of time so they know what your vision for your session is.
  4. NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY WINDOW:  I strive to photograph newborns within 12 days after delivery.  This is the best time to get those sleepy baby shots that we all want!  Often waiting until after baby is born may be difficult to get on a photographers calendar and do a session that quickly.
  5. PLAN + STRESS LESS:  If you follow these tips and plan ahead, you’ll be less stressed and at ease knowing you already have a plan in place.  I feel like if there is anything you can do to eliminate stress and book your dream photographer, it’s totally worth it!Have a question about a maternity/newborn session?  I’d love to answer them!  Feel free to comment below or email me at jenny@jennybeckphotography.com.
