One our favorite small towns in Northern Michigan is Frankfort. This is our favorite little spot for a perfect peaceful summer getaway. I’m sharing my family’s favorite place to stay and things to do in this small town.
Our favorite things about Frankfort, Michigan:
– crystal clear fresh water
– white sandy large public beach
– swings, sand volleyball + pier to walk
– cute little town to walk around and our favorite Stormcloud Brewing Company
– Traverse City & Sleepy Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are a short drive away
WHERE WE STAYED IN FRANKFORT MICHIGAN
Harbor lights Resort:
My family of four stayed in a “mini suite” which had a queen been, a twin/full bunk bed, a bathroom, small kitchen, dining table, couch and a patio that overlooked lake Michigan with the perfect view of a sunset every evening.
It was cozy, but fit our family of four fit perfectly. We could easily make breakfast and lunch, then store all the fixing in the full size fridge. In the evenings, we would venture out and walk uptown for dinner.
Early morning pier walk (below). Lots of huge fish swimming around in the crystal clear waters! The sunset beach view from our suite each night! (below)
Stormcloud Brewing Company: A favorite place we love to frequent on our stay in Frankfort is Stormcloud Brewing Company. It has a modern laid back brewery vibe and a small side lawn perfect for playing a game of corn hole (update: the side lawn is no longer there, since they’ve added more seating). The serve delicious pizza and beer and have a cute little garden out back where they grow some of their own food!
Sleepy Bear Dunes National Lakeshore – Scenic Drive: If you are rushed for time, the last two stops, 8 & 9, are the best and where you’ll see some of the pictures below. The scenery is unreal! It truly looks like you’re in the mediterranean. The water is turquoise! The sand is soft and white on your feet. It’s a great spot for a family pictures or to get some landscape shots.
Traverse City, Michigan:
When we stay in Frankfort, we always take a day trip to Traverse City. It’s the perfect spot to explore & shop that’s a little more lively. Playing a the splash pad at Clinch Park is a much see if it’s a hot day with kids! We have stayed in Traverse City before and do enjoy it, but have found Frankfort to be a little more quaint and peaceful to stay for a restful vacation.
