There is nothing more special than the bond between a young girl and her very first horse. This equine photography session at Success Acres Farm in Sunbury, Ohio. It was one of those magical evenings I’ll never forget. The Guagenti family, who I’ve known for many years as neighbors, invited me to capture this sweet milestone. It was truly like photographing a beautiful love story.

Golden Hour Magic at Success Acres Farm

We scheduled this session during golden hour, and the light could not have been more perfect. As the sun dipped behind the trees of Success Acres Farm, the soft golden light wrapped everything in a warm, nostalgic glow. It’s the kind of light that makes equine photography timeless, dreamy, and filled with emotion. That’s why golden hour is always my favorite time for horse photography.  It always elevates every moment into pure magic.

A Girl, Her Horse, and a Heartfelt Surprise

The heart of this Sunbury equine photography session was a beautiful 12-year-old girl and her first horse. She wore a simple white dress that gave the images a classic and effortless look. Also, to tie in her equestrian style, she paired it with tall Equus Now riding boots, which added the perfect touch of personality.

Throughout the session, I captured the quiet moments of connection: the way her horse nuzzled against her, the joy in her smile, and the comfort they found in each other’s presence. Just when she thought the day couldn’t be more perfect, her dad surprised her with the official papers showing the horse was truly hers. That emotional moment was unforgettable, and photographing her reaction felt like documenting the very heart of what equine photography is all about.
